Super Saturday

We started off our day by going skating in NE Columbia with some friends. I roller skated for the first time in about 25+ years. It was like riding a bike except not as fast and I wasn't able to make my turns quite as sharp......but the good news is I didn't fall down.

We then went to lunch at Red Robin YUM! Haven't been there in over a year so it was a nice treat.

We then went to the Tic Toc Candy Shop in 5 Points so I could revisit my childhood again. Mallow Cups are the best. Peaches enjoyed a 3 inch Pixy Stix and we got some cool party favors for her birthday party.

Peaches & I then went to get our nails done. She went all out and got flowers on two of her nails. Cool!

Then to Little Caesars for dinner then home. What a day, I am exhausted!

Oh-good deed of the day was giving a homeless dog water (thank you John).

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

I want to say Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband. We were married 15 years ago on July 15, 1995. The HOTTEST day of the year (115 degrees not including the heat index). We were married on a Saturday and I became a member of the church the very next day. On Monday, July 17th we left the only home I had ever known (Fredericksburg, VA) and traveled across the country to what was supposed to be our destination, Sugarland, TX (which we picked on a map with our eyes closed). Well, we never made it to Sugarland, TX because on Tuesday, July 18th we were robbed in Tuscalosa, AL outside of our Ramada Inn hotel. The robber, Rocky Love (yeah I remember his name very clearly) took most everything we owned including all of our wedding presents, pictures, jewelry and our new microwave. After the police woman took all of our information we headed to Wal-mart to buy a new lock for our U-Haul trailer. Next we continued on our destination to Sugarland.......it just gets better and better from here.

Well, we made it to Baytown, TX the next day which is now Wednesday, July 18th and stayed at La Quinta Inn or should I say LIVED at La Quinta Inn. We looked in the phone book and found an LDS Church hoping to meet some members who could help us out. As we were driving down the street to the LDS Church there was a plume of smoke in the sky and it just got bigger and bigger and CLOSER as we kept driving. As we turned into the neighborhood the Church was in, we quickly realized that the Church was on fire and was mostly burnt to the ground. The Bishop and several members were there and now us, the newly weds that were just robbed with no money, no home, no family and just the clothes on their backs.

That was just the beginning to our 15 year adventure. I will have to write a book about our life in Texas one day. It isn't all bad though. We met some wonderful people who gave both of us jobs, helped us find a place to live, gave us furniture and cooking utensils and became our best friends.

Now look at us. We have 2 beautiful children, are happy, healthy and love our life in SC.

To be continued.........................

Well I Declare!

That's right, it's the Fourth of July! One of, if not THE, most important holidays in this great country. A great excuse to go out an exercise your ability to set off small explosives, burn up some grass or asphalt in your backyard or driveway, or even shoot off some firearms (safely into a good backstop-NOT IN THE AIR!). Go out and grill some meat, enjoy the weather and family.
Let us not forget those men who basically signed their lives away when they put out that Declaration of Independence. Remember that by doing that, they were, in the eyes of Britain, committing treason. Nowadays, we don't shoot or hang traitors...more's the pity. Back in the 1770s, though, it was a different story. Those men put their lives on the line for an idea of a free and independent set of colonies...which happened to turn into the great country that we have today! I know that times are tough, government sucks and all that...but remember that YOU have the right and ability to: 1. Complain; 2. Do something about it; or 3. Do nothing. Remember that by doing nothing, you've chosen to preserve the status quo. Enough soapboxing.
Go out and thank a soldier. Find a cop and thank him/her. Find a fireman and shake his hand and thank him. Thank them all for the jobs they do to protect YOUR life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
